The White House memo said that the Supercharging network would be open to other electric vehicles by the end of the year.

In April, the U.S. government said it needed to increase its own network of charging stations by a factor of 100. More than 1,600 employees work at the Gigafactory in Buffalo, NY, which produces solar panels and Supercharging stations.

According to the memo, later this year,Tesla will begin production of new Supercharging equipment that will allow non-Tesla EV drivers in North America to useTesla Superchargings.

The expansion and exposure to customers of other EV brands could help the company capture more revenue and attention.

The memo said that the EV maker is ramping up production of power electronics components that convert alternating current to direct current.

There is a patchwork of different charging networks in the U.S. GM plans to equip its new EV with "Plug and Charge" capability that lets drivers plug in and pay at a range of different charging stations.

The Supercharger network will only be accessible by non-Tesla owners.

The CEO has mused about opening the fast-charging network to non-Tesla EV owners. The company began pilot programs in more than a dozen European countries.

The company did not reply to the request for comment.
