Matt Duffer said on the show that killing a major character like Mike Wheeler would be "depressing."
In a May interview with The Wrap, Brown said that the show needed to kill off some people because it had gotten too big. Brown said the Duffer brothers were sensitive and suggested a massacre scene to kill off half the cast.
She told The Wrap that they need to have a mindset of "Game ofThrones"
Matt responded directly to Brown's call to emulate the show, which is notorious for killing off important characters.
"We're not a show like Game of Throne," Matt said. It's not a show.
Barb and Bob were killed off in the first and second seasons of "Stranger Things", they weren't part of the core cast. The writers went as far as to fake out Hopper's death at the end of the third season in order to make him look like he was dead.
Matt said that it would be two seasons of grappling with that when Barb died. Imagine if Mike died, is that something that we're interested in exploring, or not?
Thematic and narrative purpose are served by every death on the show. He said that moving into the fifth and final season meant that more of that was on the table.
Matt said that he was defending himself against the accusations that he was a sensitive Sally. "So there you go!"
