The network of Supercharger stations was only forTeslas. With increasing competition, demand for charging station access has risen, prompting the company to open its network to third party EV's.

The open-access Supercharger pilot program will head to the US.

According to a recent White House fact sheet, open charging could be available by the end of the year. The Charge Your Non-Tesla option is available to American EV owners through the latestTesla app.

Ensuring interoperability will be one of the challenges. Only a few stations are open to non-owners in Europe. Every Supercharging open access is in the Netherlands.

To get around the company's own proprietary charging plug, as well as consider the software interactions between the charging station and non-Tesla EV, the company will need to install adapter at its stations.
