White Cube Hong Kong will be hosting the first Asia exhibition of late legendary artist, Al Held. Entitled "Modern Maverick," the momentous showcase will display significant works on paper and diverse paintings from Held's prolific oeuvre. The American expressionist painter was widely-recognized for championing hard-edge abstraction in his compositions. One of the highlighted bodies of work includes the artist's geometric works from his 'Luminous Construct' series - inspired by the perspective and illusionism of Renaissance painting, as per a statement.

"Throughout his life, Al Held relentlessly pursued a goal to test the limits of abstract painting. At White Cube Hong Kong, we are presenting a detailed visual narrative of these developments that begins with Held's roots in Modernist Abstraction and concludes with his transformation into a post-Modern rascal who turned away from Modernist traditions," said John Good, Director of Artists' Estates at White Cube.
