A tech company backed by Ford and Volkswagen has laid off about 150 people and slowed the pace of hiring because of recession fears.

According to sources familiar with the company's actions, 5% of its more than 2,000 global workforce have been laid off. The layoffs affected talent recruiters, digital media and communications employees, as well as members of its operations teams, according to a review of the company's profiles.

According to a source who is not authorized to speak on behalf of the company, the company overshot where it should be. Dozens of engineering, legal, technical program management and fleet operations positions are still available.

The company launched its testing operations in Miami and Austin in May of 2022.
