The proposed merger of Frontier Airlines with Spirit Airlines has been delayed for a third time, suggesting that a hostile bid by JetBlue Airways may be gaining support from its board.

The shareholder vote on the Frontier bid was put off until July 15. The airline can continue discussions with the two airlines. The delay was reported by the news agency.

The shareholder vote was supposed to take place on June 10, but has been delayed three times. According to experts, each postponement may mean that the airline doesn't like what it sees.

The CEO of the airline said they were encouraged by their discussions with the company. He believed that the offer provided superior value to shareholders.

According to an analysis by Raymond James, Frontier is offering a mix of cash and stock that is equal to about $2.4 billion. Frontier and Spirit executives argue that their offer is superior because it gives shareholders the chance to benefit from the merged airline.

The combined airline would be the fifth largest in the US, behind American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines. Alaska Airlines would be leapfrogged by a combined Frontier-Spirit.
