Chauvin was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for violating George Floyd's civil rights. The former Minnesota cop was sentenced on Thursday for keeping his knee pinned on Floyd's neck when he passed out. Chauvin was in the courtroom when the judge read the sentence and waved to his mother and friends in the gallery. Philonise accused Chauvin of using excessive force that went against his police training in George's murder. Philonise said George's life mattered. Carolyn Pawlenty told the court that she hoped she would still be alive when Chauvin was released. We reported that as well. Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years in prison for killing Floyd.
