It's looking more and more like a Hot Zone Summer: On Thursday, the World Health Organization reported the number of confirmed monkeypox cases to be skyrocketing, to the tune of a whopping 77 percent increase week- over-week worldwide.

Over 7,000 cases of the mysterious disease have been reported in 60 countries. While monkeypox has been circulating in parts of Africa for a long time, it's not uncommon for it to spread to other parts of the world.

The director-general of the World Health Organization said this week that he is concerned by the scale and spread of the virus. Europe was found to be the epicenter of the new outbreak.

The number of actual cases could be worse. It's highly probable that there are a lot of cases that aren't being picked up.

There are a number of symptoms of the disease, such as body ache, fatigue, and itching. US president Joe Biden announced last week that his administration will make the vaccine broadly available, and fortunately there is already a tested, proven, and manufactured vaccine that protects against monkeypox.

appointments filled up almost immediately as New York City officials began administering thousands of doses. There's only a limited amount of shots that can be used.

Scientists are trying to understand what's behind the outbreak. Methods that don't involve an already short-stocked vaccine supply will hopefully be produced by their efforts.

"Concerned by the scale and spread of the virus" was reported by the WHO.

Scientists don't agree about international monkeypox outbreaks.
