Sunny Balwani, former Theranos president

A jury found today that the former business partner of ElizabethHolmes defrauded investors and patients of the blood testing company.

Balwani was charged with 10 counts of wire fraud and 2 counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He will be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for each count.

In January, he was convicted of four counts of fraud. She was acquitted of fraud charges.

Balwani joined the company as president and COO. He was the company's lab supervisor. They started dating after she started the company. As the company collapsed, they kept the relationship a secret.

A machine that could run hundreds of blood tests on a single drop of blood was promised by Theranos. The tech couldn't do what it promised, and the company came under scrutiny by federal regulators. The labs stopped working in the year 2016

A federal judge separated their trials in 2020 after a woman accused Balwani of sexually abusing her. During her trial, she tried to shift the blame for the problems at Theranos on him. Balwani's lawyers claimed at his trial that he was in charge of the company. He made a lot of important decisions at the company. They pointed out a text message from Balwani that said he was responsible for everything.

The two men will be sentenced in the fall.
