Guilty on all 12 charges against former Theranos exec Sunny Balwani

After nearly five days of deliberations, a unanimous verdict has been reached in the trial of the former Theranos president and COO. Balwani was found guilty of all 12 charges.

The biggest crowd was in the courtroom when the verdict was read. A maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and fines of $250,000 per wire fraud and conspiracy count is possible.

Balwani was indicted for allegedly defrauding investors, doctors, and patients who bought into $9 billion startup Theranos' simplified blood-testing technology that proved too good to be true.

Two dozen government witnesses tried to convince the jury that Balwani lied, deceiving investors and endangering patients with false blood test results. Balwani's defense asked if there was enough evidence to convict him and if he had acted in good faith and believed in the company's technology.

The prosecution asked the jury to convict Balwani, even though they tried to pin the blame onHolmes. Today is what happened. The New York Times reported that the assistant US attorney and lead prosecutor in the case told the jury to consider a text message from Balwani to Holmes as evidence of his guilt.
