Nadal has a torn abdominal muscle and won't be able to play in the semifinals.

The winner of Sunday's match will face the winner of the other match.

"Unfortunately, as you can imagine, if I am here, it's because I have to pull out from the tournament,'' Nadal said during a news conference on Thursday.

Nadal spent most of the time hitting forehands and backhand, and though he did practice some serves, they were at a much reduced speed.

According to the Spanish newspaper, Nadal has a 7 millimeter tear in one of his abdominal muscles, but he intends to play.

During his five-set victory over Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nadal wore tape over part of his abdomen and had to take pain killers.

He was trying to win Wimbledon for the first time in five years.

He had won the Australian Open and French Open earlier in the year.
