The head of the IRS has asked the Treasury Department's internal watchdog to investigate the agency's tax audits of two men who have been frequent targets of criticism from Donald Trump.
The inspector general of the Treasury requested an inquiry on Thursday, a day after The New York Times reported that the FBI director and his deputy had been audited.
The Times reported that he was audited for his taxes. The man was audited for his return. The man who appointed the current IRS Commissioner to his post was Trump.
According to the Times, only a small percentage of tax filers were audited.
During an interview on CNN, where he is an analyst, he called for an investigation of the audits.
