The new lounges at the hub of the airline are for elite members and are located at the airport. I am still trying to understand the full implications of this, but it is definitely a good thing.
Privilege Club and oneworld elite members are the target audience for the new lounges. The World Cup later this year will add to the need for lounge capacity at the airport.
These new lounges are in addition to the Qatar Airways Al Safwa Lounge (for first class passengers), Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Lounge (for business class passengers), and Qatar Airways Oryx Lounge (for oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members).
We know a lot about each lounge.
The new lounge is located in the A concourse. Privilege Club Platinum members can go to the lounge. The lounge has seating for 140 people, a bar, a restaurant, a prayer room, and showers.
The new lounge is located in the A concourse of the airport. Privilege Club Gold members can go to the lounge. The lounge has seating for 85 passengers, a bar, a dining area, showers, and more.
There is a new lounge in the Concourse B of DOH. Oneworld Ruby members are not allowed in the lounge. The lounge can hold up to 195 people. The lounge has meeting rooms, a family room, and a quiet area.
The addition of more lounge capacity is great. The lounges at the carrier have been crowded, but they gained a bit of market share.
Oneworld's policy states that lounge access rules should be in line with intent. Oneworld Emerald members haven't gotten access to the Al Safwa First Lounge and oneworld sapphires members haven't gotten access to the Al Mourjan Business Lounge.
Oneworld elite members have had access to the Al Mourjan Lounge for a couple of years. With the opening of these new lounges for elite members, I wonder if we will finally see a cut in lounge access for oneworld members.
I would like to check out these lounges. It would be nice if elite members were allowed into the general first class lounges. It is cool that the lounge will have a la carte dining.
The lounges at the airport are for elite members of the airline. The Platinum, Gold, and Silver lounges add lounge capacity for an additional 400 people.
I would like to check out the lounges and see if the elite members are allowed in.
What do you think about the lounges? Please report back if you see them soon.
