Millionaires are just like the rest of us, when they need help repairing their out-of-commission, Cold War-era radar units, they turn to the good people over at Reddit.

According to Vice, an anonymous post featuring a gigantic British AMES Type 84 radar unit led users on a quest to uncover the identity of the person who bought it.

A photo of the Cold War giant was featured in an anonymous post. I want to make this work again.

When someone asked the original poster what they wanted to do with the junk, the user replied that it may be fun to try to find aliens.

Since there are only five type 84 radar units like it in Britain, the person behind the post was William Sachiti.

The founder of Kar-go, who made a name for himself in the UK for his work, later told Vice that he was behind the post.

He said he was only joking when he said he wanted to use the machine to hunt for aliens.

He said it wasn't for him to decide what the best use was for it. If it doesn't harm and it's not intrusive, I'll give it a chance.

The type 84 is being refurbished because it is more mundane.

He told Vice that when he bought a former Royal Air Force base for his company, he found an abandoned radar unit.

The Type 84 can't be torn down because it's a monument by the British government.

"Because there wasn't a lot of people here for a while, it was slowly degrading," she said. Every time I looked at it, I thought something needed to be done.

He tried to crowd source a fix for the decaying giant, and the rest is history.

The Type 84 isn't back up and running yet because it's only been a week. It will likely need a lot of tinkering to make sure that it doesn't wipe out local television waves.

It's probably only a matter of time until Sachiti's post starts looking for visitors from other worlds.
