According to a new Morning Consult poll, a majority of Americans approve of companies funding out-of-state travel for employees who want to have abortions.
The survey found that the majority of Americans are in favor of companies allowing employees to relocate if they are concerned about abortion access.
A majority of people support companies funding medical services and travel costs for employees who travel out of state to access abortion care.
Out-of-state travel funding is opposed by a third of the people.
The respondents were more supportive of companies speaking out and taking action against the court's decision than they were of companies making statements or signing on to letters opposing the ruling.
Only 29% of Americans support companies that support the court's decision to overturn the abortion law, and 22% support companies that prohibit employees from discussing the ruling at work.
They were more in favor of businesses moving to another state that protects abortion access than they were of businesses staying in the current state.
Republicans will respond to companies that take action against the Supreme Court. Lawmakers in Texas plan to introduce legislation that would punish companies that help employees with abortion, including the possibility of barring them from doing business in the state. The Washington Post reported that anti-abortion legislators in some states are considering proposals that would bar residents from traveling out of state for abortions.
On June 24, the Supreme Court gave states the power to outlaw abortion, sparking a wave of abortion bans. If employees have to go out of state for abortion care, a number of major companies have promised to pay for it. No major companies have yet announced plans to move their offices out of states that ban abortion, but a number of Democratic governors have encouraged companies to do so. Disney came under scrutiny for its initial reluctance to oppose Florida legislation known as the "Don't Say Gay" bill, which it later came out strongly against, due to the Supreme Court ruling. Florida lawmakers retaliated against Disney by dissolving a special district that controls Walt Disney World, and Texas lawmakers had vowed to take action against companies that funded abortions out of state.
