There is a new single player title based on the Gwent card game. Gwent is a roguelike deck builder in which players enter a procedurally-generated map and fight their way through a series of monsters and bosses using a deck of card-based abilities.
The game is set hundreds of years before the events of The Witcher 3, with players taking on the role of a mage as he tries to create the first ever Witcher. The director of the game says that the expansion isn't an official addition to the lore of the game.
It will take 30 hours for the game to be fully explored, with each game loop lasting up to an hour. The title is similar to Slay the Spire, a deck builder in which players battle their way through a tower of enemies.
The Gwent card game, which was a minigame-turned-main-attraction in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is the latest attempt by Projekt Red to build on that.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was a free-to-play title for various platforms before it was shut down for consoles in 2020. Thronebreaker was a single player expansion for the original game that was poorly received.
There are more experiments within the Gwent format. It is available on the GOG store for PC, as well as on the App Store, the Play Store, and the Steam store. The next iteration of the main Witcher series is still being worked on by Projekt Red, with very little information available.
