If Kevin Smith hadn't canceled his comedy show after suffering a heart attack, Clerks III wouldn't have been made. In the first trailer for Clerks III, the spectre of humanity's mortality is what brings Dante, Randal, Jay, and Silent Bob back together, but the relatively dark circumstances remind them that they still have time to fulfill their dreams.
The first trailer for Clerks III zooms in on Dante and Randal just as Dante is having a heart attack at the Quick Stop where the two have been for decades. While his heart attack doesn't kill him, it does leave him inspired to finally make good on his lifelong dream of making a movie. The trailer makes it clear that the gang's reunion will very much be a send-up of Jay and Silent Bob's obsession with other people's artwork.
Fans of the original Clerks will only be able to see the newest film in theaters for a short time before it is released on DVD.
