Mick Mulvaney, the former White House chief of staff, urged his fellow Republicans to pay more attention to the January 6 hearings that have painted a devastating picture of his former boss.

Mulvaney wrote in an opinion piece for the Charlotte Observer that the significance of the hearings cannot be overstated.

Many Republican complaints about the congressional panel investigating the attack on the Capitol are fair according to Mulvaney. Mulvaney pointed to the lack of cross-examination of witnesses and the panel waiting to release the full transcript of their depositions.

The panel has uncovered shocking details even with this in mind. Some of the biggest revelations have been from Republicans, he said.

Mulvaney wrote that Republicans should pay attention when they testify that other Republicans lost the 2020 election and then broke the law to try to change that.

The testimonies of Cassidy Hutchinson, the former White House aide, and the Arizona House Speaker were checked out by Mulvaney.

Hutchinson told the panel that there were armed people trying to attend the rally. Rudy Giuliani admitted that Trump's circle had no evidence of election fraud, according to testimony. After losing the election, the president spread so many fraudulent claims that it was like playing Whac-a-Mole trying to debunk them.

A number of high-profile Trump officials resigned in the wake of the attack.

Nancy Pelosi appointed two Republicans to serve on the panel. Pelosi rejected two of Kevin McCarthy's picks. Trump is frustrated that there aren't more Republicans who will defend him during the hearings.

The next hearing is in July. The planning for Trump's January 6 rally that preceded the riot and how far-right fringe groups got involved will be the focus of the hearing.

The panel hasn't answered all the questions about whether the White House was in contact with any of the far-right groups, according to the panel's chairman.
