Boston general manager Don Sweeney confirmed that Jake DeBrusk had changed his mind about being traded.
Speaking ahead of the NHL's entry draft, which starts Thursday, Sweeney said that the previously dissatisfied Bruins winger had a more positive outlook about his future with the club.
Jake wants to be with the Bruins and we're very happy that he's changed his mind. He had a great second part of the year and he's looking forward to being back. He was in a better place at the end of the season.
After news of DeBrusk's request became public, Sweeney said he would try to facilitate a hockey trade that would help the Bruins and give DeBrusk a fresh start.
DeBrusk registered 25 goals and 42 points in 77 games while waiting for a move to happen.
Boston was interested in a possible deal for DeBrusk. With DeBrusk set to become a restricted free agent this summer, Sweeney signed him to a two-year, $8 million extension in March that would make it easier to sign him to a new contract.
There wouldn't be a need to find one at the moment. Sweeney wouldn't rule out DeBrusk being traded at some point if it was necessary to improve the club. It isn't at the forefront anymore.
Sweeney wants to improve the team and Jake knows that. I have to keep looking at that. We're happy that he's doing well.
David Pastrnak's agent, JP Barry, will meet with the club in Montreal about an extension, according to Boston's president. Pastrnak is in the final year of his contract.
