Terry McLaurin was more than just a receiver who needed to be extended according to Ron Rivera. He was a key player in rebuilding the organization's reputation.

Rivera said that he was an organizational signing. It affects the business side as well as the football side. We want young men of this stature out there representing our organization, that's what it says.

The owner of Washington has been under investigation by congress. On June 22, it held a hearing, but Snyder didn't show up or testify. The House Oversight Committee's Democratic leadership continues to negotiate with Snyder's attorneys in order to get him to testify.

Other on-field news has been overshadowed by the congressional story. Fans feared more bad news was on the way when McLaurin didn't show up for the mandatory three-day minicamp. He worked his way from a third-round pick to a guy with two 1,000-yard seasons.

Rivera stressed his importance to the organization when he was training in Florida.

The priority was to get the deal done.

By the time Washington left minicamp, there was hope that the extension would be done. He signed his three-year contract with a $28 million signing bonus on Tuesday, a week after agreeing to it.

Rivera talked about how the organization has changed in the last two years, getting rid of people who have been accused of sexual harassment.

Rivera asked that they not be judged from the fact that this happened at this point in time. We're going in a different direction. Things are being changed. We are attempting to do the best we can. Some people don't think it's important, but it does. You can make things better by changing. Correcting your mistakes is what we are doing. We're getting a lot of help.

Even though he had played with different quarterbacks, he blossomed in Washington. He went over 1,000 yards in each of the next two seasons.

In the past two seasons, he has ranked in the top 12 in the league in receiving yards and catches.

He was a must have for Rivera as he juggles on-field planning with off- field news.

Rivera said that they were doing the best they could to put the best players in position so they could build something that everyone would be proud of. I get upset about it because I know it's a news item. We're trying to do something on the field. We don't want to say that what happened is unimportant. We're doing everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen again, so that we're better.

Team leaders have tried to look ahead.

Coach Rivera's vision and how he leads us is something that we trust. He does a great job of handling the situation. The best way to represent the organization is through us. We are serious about that. Work, transparency, and working hard as a collective group are some of the things that come with it. We are allowed to focus on the field. We want to focus on where we're going.
