Bad North

Bad North is one of those unique games that come along a lot. It is described as a real-time tactics rogue lite by the developers. Even though it's a challenging game, the win state isn't all that happy.

You're trying to protect your island home from a group of invaders. You will be kept on the edge of your seat as you fight to survive, because they will come at you fast and brutally. The art style is cute. The game lulls you into a false sense of security.

RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU...

The premium game is called Bad North. You'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it, and it's cheap to enter. Give it a go, see if you can survive.

If you're a fan of the Civilization franchise, you need to check out The Battle for Polytonia. The battle arena is the focus of this game. The game is easy to pick up and play. You collect stars based on the number and size of the cities you control, which will allow you to upgrade your technology tree, build troops, or collect resources. You have to be careful with how you spend your resources.

The ways to play are many. You can create a custom game that ends after 30 turns or until all of the tribes are gone. The pass-and-play option allows you to set up a custom game for your friends and even keep them saved so you can play the same game over and over again. If you can't play in person with your friends, the artificial intelligence offers a decent challenge with difficulty levels ranging from easy to crazy. When you download the game, there are four different tribes to choose from.

Bloons TD 6

BloonsTD is a tower defense series that has been around for a long time. In the game, you use a variety of towers and upgrade to defend your lands. Three upgrade paths are available for you to choose from, all of which are included in the 21 you have to choose from.

Offline play, additional difficulties, and a lot of fun are included. You have to pay five bucks up front and then deal with optional IAPs for faster and/or extra unlocks in order to make the game usable. At least the game isn't hindered if you don't fork over extra cash.

Card Thief

A card game and a strategy game can be played together. The name of the game is stealth, you play a thief who must sneak their way through a deck of cards to collect treasure. Equipment cards can be used to assist you in your thieving ways, but don't get too confident or you'll run out of sneak points and get caught.

You will do things such as extinguish torches. Card Thief has a progression system that allows you to upgrade equipment as you pull off heists. It's rewarding for fans of strategy card games because of the steep learning curve.

Chess Pro

The most popular app-based version of chess is the one from Artificial Intelligence Factory. It's simple enough to draw in all kinds of players, but still has a lot of features to keep people interested.

The free ad-supported and paid versions have some additional features. We've featured the company on some of our other lists, as well as making a name for itself recreating classic board games.

There are 12 levels of play and you can choose between Casual and pro modes. There is a built-in tutor and insight into the CPU thought process. This is the one we recommend if you want chess on your phone.

Crying Suns

Crying Suns is a strategy rogue-lite set in a crumbling empire. You are a clone of Ellys Idaho and you have been brought back to life by a robot who needs your help.

To get to the center of the empire to find out why communications have stopped, you need a skilled but expendable crew and a fleet of squadrons. Space pirates, abandoned colonies in dire need of help, new crew members, and more will be encountered along the way. It's a balancing act to decide how you want to proceed, as your resources are finite and you are at risk. If you make a wrong call, the game can be over and you have to go back to the beginning.

The interface is small on smaller screens. Crying Suns is a top tier sci-fi strategy. This caliber of mobile gaming doesn't come cheap, so you're going to have to fork over a lot of money. Crying Suns is one of the best games available on the service for free.

The Escapists 2: Pocket Breakout

The player with the most freedom in the game is the one who plays The Escapists 2. If you enjoyed The Escapists, you'll love the sequel, which has been better designed for mobile with enhanced touch controls and features added for the sequel

The thrill of a perfectly planned prison break is what the sequel is all about. There are many ways to break out of a prison, including stealing supplies to craft items, earning money which can be used to bribe guards, or just crafting weapons and causing a riot. It's possible to train your prisoner in the library or gym in your downtime, but you will have to keep up with the daily prison routines to avoid suspicion.

There are five prisons to escape from, starting in a basic jail and ramping up to challenging maximum security facilities, and you're able to scheme and play with friends over local.

Enyo

It feels like Enyo is playing chess. Chess is fine and dandy, but Enyo takes that same vibe and puts an interesting twist on it to create an experience that is familiar yet new. Enyo, the Greek goddess of war, is on a quest to recover artifacts from a shifting labyrinth. Enyo can only move between spaces if she uses her shield bash and hook abilities.

The boards are filled with environmental dangers that pose a threat to both you and your opponents. It is gratifying to push an enemy into a pit of boiling lava. The game's concept is easy to pick up but takes time and effort to master, which is the mark of a really good strategy game. Enyo's coloring and design make her hard to pick out on the game board because she's in line with the enemy designs. I found myself losing my place every now and then.

Basic game mechanics and modes are included in the free version. For a free game, this one packs some quality strategic content into a great setting.

Fire Emblem: Heroes

The eighth title in the popular strategy-RPG franchise to be released on North American shores is Fire Emblem: Heroes.

The Askran Kingdom faces the Emblian Empire in a brand new story that pits the noble Askran Kingdom against the power-hungry Emblian Empire. You're playing the role of a summoner who can bring Fire Emblem's best heroes together to help defend the kingdom. There are arenas where you have to strategically move your Heroes to attack and defend against your opponents.

Special Maps, Arena Duels, and the Training Tower are game modes that can be unlocked through the Story Mode. The single-player campaign of Arena Duel is not the only thing that keeps you busy.

Gwent

Gwent is a character from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game started out as a mini-game in The Witcher and grew into a full game. It was a simple game with a simple premise. It took many more hours to complete the game.

Gwent was broken out into its own spinoff by developer CD Projekt Red. After a long time, they brought it to the phone's operating system, and I was very excited. It's a huge download, but it's worth it. Gwent is a card game that I enjoy playing.

I've gone through many hours of Gwent on my phone without spending a cent because it's a free game. Gwent has something to offer if you enjoy the world of The Witcher, whether you have read the books, played the games, or watched the show.

Hello Neighbor

Hello Neighbor is a strategy game. You are a snoopy neighbor who spies on another person. Someone is up to something and you want to find out what he's hiding. He sets up defenses to counter you when you break into his house. You have to come up with a new strategy.

If you want a strategy/puzzle game with horror elements, this is the game for you. It's definitely a strange premise, but I think it's enjoyable. It is free to install and try, but you will have to pay fifteen dollars to get the full experience.

Heroes of Flatlandia

It's a paradigm that's perfect for a strategy game because turn-based games have captured the hearts of many. In the story of Heroes of Flatlandia, you choose your hero, raise your army, and face off against your enemies in a battle.

You can choose between eight different heroes and use 30 different unit types. Even if there isn't enough hardcore strategy for some fans of the genre, the game looks good. It's a good time with tactics for a couple of dollars. If you're interested in that, there's more than one.

Holedown

Holedown is a puzzle game that has a lot of strategy in it. The game has you mining to the center of the planets, starting with an asteroid and working your way up to the Sun. The number of hits needed to destroy a brick is represented by the brick's number. It is possible to let gravity do most of the work by destroying a block that supports another block and bolding another one.

It is easy to pick up and play this game. The curved bricks allow you to clear out large sections of blocks in a single shot. As the screen moves up one row after every shot, this will become crucial. The game is over if the blocks get to the top of the screen.

You will get more balls per shot and more shots per round when you upgrade your equipment. The earlier levels can become more of a distraction for your subway commute if you don't upgrade.

Holedown is worth the money if you're a fan of physics-based puzzle games and want a new obsession.

Legends of Runeterra

Riot Games' answer to Hearthstone is the final card game for this list.. Similar to Hearthstone and Gwent, the heroes from the League of Legend's universe are featured in the title. It's not revolutionary, but people who want to get away from the Warcraft universe should look at this one.

I didn't play League of Legend. I didn't know what was happening when I launched it. You can feel like you've got a grasp on how to play even if you don't know much about the game. Even though they're scripted, it still feels good to outwit the artificial intelligence.

Microtransactions are included in the free version of LEGENDS OF BORNE REVOLUTION. Riot doesn't have a good reputation, but they have a good chance of being a potential competitor to the Hearthstone game.

Mindustry

There is a hidden gem in the tower defense games in the play store. Instead of holding your hand through preset levels, the game offers a complete and open sandbox philosophy where you are given the tools to build up your defenses before waves of enemies give them a test. It's a free download with no ads or in-app purchases, and it's more robust than most mobile strategy games.

Logistical thinking is needed to find success in M industry. You need to concern yourself with mining resources to build up your defense, but you also need to protect your supply lines, which deliver mined resources from the drill to your core base and defense turrets. The learning curve is steep when you're just starting out, but once you get a handle on the basics, M industry opens up.

The solo mode is a great place to start, but only a small part of what Mindustry has to offer. The host of a custom server can modify almost every aspect of the game. You can use the map editor to make your own maps. It's an amazing game that's continued to grow over the past four years while being free for people to play on their phones.

Mushroom Wars 2

Mushroom Wars 2 is a real-time strategy game that allows you to control armies of mushroom soldiers in online or offline battles. The game is easy to learn but difficult to master.

In order to achieve your goal of total domination, you need to move your troops across the map, taking over strategic mushroom huts and other structures while defending against your enemy. There are four Mushroom tribes to choose from with a full campaign episode available for each, but the real action begins with the online Multiplayer. You will need to keep your wits about you as you balance your troop levels and use special skills to dominate your opponent.

Night of the Full Moon

Night of the Full Moon puts you in the shoes of Little Red Riding Hood on a quest to find her grandmother during a full moon. Red needs to venture into a forest and fight her way through a lot of folk creatures. The simplicity of the game is what makes it shine. If you don't want to, you can skip the whole thing.

Night of the Full Moon has gorgeous graphics, good voice acting, and tons of cards for you to collect, level up, and build your own decks. It's possible to make things even more enjoyable by changing your occupation to something else. The difficulty level in the strategic elements is beginner friendly and there's a lot of fun to be had with this great deck-builder. If you're a Play Pass subscriber, you can get the ad and IAP-free version of Night of the Full Moon.

ROME: Total War

In ROME: Total War, you must conquer the ancient world. There are 19 factions to choose from in this game. Whether you're Roman, Egyptian, Macedonian, or any other historic empire, you want to conquer everything.

You need to see to your civilization's political, economic, and religious affairs if you want to win the war. The Barbarian Invasion and Alexander variant of ROME: Total War are both available on the Play Store.

There are many hours of a campaign in ROME: Total War.

Tiny Guardians

Tower defense strategy games can be difficult to stand out in. It's a tower defense game, but without towers, so it has a twist that makes it different. The standard formula of TinyGuardians is changed by moving the player's forces through levels rather than just setting up defenses and waiting for the baddies to die.

To get your main character, Lunalie, to the end of each level safely, you need to summon the right troops. Each guardian can be upgraded up to four times if players experiment with them. There's a good variety of enemies to choose from in the levels.

The graphics aren't the most cutting edge. The game's in-app purchases are limited to cosmetic items, and there are no ads. For those who subscribe to the Play Pass, TinyGuardians is free. It costs $3.99 for a good quality strategy experience for non subscribers.

Tropico

It's difficult to run a whole country, but it's easier when you're a dictator and can run everything you want. Tropico is a game where you take on the role of El Presidente of your own Caribbean island paradise and lead your country into the future.

You are put in charge of managing all aspects of life and society on the island, building new roads and structures, training your citizens with schools and military bases, managing the economy by building farms and industries, and negotiating export deals with other nations. Managing the politics of the island, keeping people happy by improving the quality of life, and quelling protests before they turn into full-blown rebellions are all part of the equation.

There's a lot of strategy involved, as you need to be sure that the structures you build are staffed properly, which could mean building better schools or bringing in specialized foreign workers. You'll get regular updates from your advisors about issues that often require you to choose between a benevolent approach or a more hardline response to show who is in charge.

The scope of the game is overwhelming, which is why you'll want to start with the tutorials that will show you how to navigate and control the floating camera. The camera controls take some time getting used to, but everything else is laid out nicely for mobile devices so that you can get a good grasp of everything by the end of your first campaign.

There are 15 campaign islands to complete that give you specific goals to complete, but there is also a sandbox mode that allows you to rule your country as you please. It's a great title for fans of construction simulations and it doesn't include in-app purchases or advertisements.

Enemy within XCOM.

Plenty to think over

Premium paid games are the best choices for game recommendations. You have to pay a small fee, but you don't have to worry about ads or microtransactions after that. Bad North: Jotunn Edition and Rome: Total War are examples of mobile titles.
