Nick Kyrgios advanced to his first Grand Slam singles semi-final with a straight-set victory.

The first Australian man in a decade to reach the last four at Wimbledon was the man named Nick.

Eight years after reaching his first Wimbledon quarter-final, the 27 year old put in a strong serving performance to advance.

He will face either a Spaniard or an American.

As a missed shot from Garin confirmed his place in the last four, Nick fell to his back.

The world number 40 is the lowest-ranked man to reach the semi-finals at SW19 since 2008.

Garin had beaten another Australian, Alex de Minaur, in the previous round, but could not hold on to the lead.

The result came a day after it was announced that Kyrgios will appear in court in Australia in relation to an allegation of common assault.

He was well received by the crowd and performed well when it mattered most, saving eight of the nine break points he faced, hitting 17 ace and winning 75% of points on his first serve.

The first game of the match was broken to love by the player who came back from two sets down in the previous round.

He was caught between admonishing his box too much and not getting enough support, so he broke back and saved two chances on his own serve.

A bad forehand from Garin gave his opponent the first set and he dug himself out of a hole in the opening game of the second.

A superb move to the net and volley wrongfooted Garin gave Kyrgios the break for a 3-1 lead, with two big serves in the next game helping to keep the Chile at bay.

The second set was secured by an ace down the T. The Australian was upset with the noise from the crowd and the umpire asked several times for quiet.

It was obvious that a tight third set would head to a tie-break and it was only a matter of time before it happened.

He was able to reach a stage in his career that he may have thought had gone beyond him despite an unfortunate overrule on match point.
