Halep rolls into semifinals after straight-sets win over Anisimova (1:22)

Simona Halep has not played in the Wimbledon semifinals since winning the title in 2019. There is a time and a place for it.

The last time Simona Halep was at Wimbledon, she won the title.

The 16th-seeded Romanian won her 12th match in a row at the All England Club on Wednesday by defeating the 13th-seeded American on Centre Court.

Halep missed the chance to defend her title at Wimbledon twice, first in 2020 when the tournament was canceled because of the coronaviruses epidemic, and then again in 2021 when she had to sit out with a left calf injury.

Halep said that he was trying to build his confidence back after a difficult year.

The semifinals will feature Halep against Elena. On the No. 1 Court, the 17th-seeded rybakina beat the 26th-seeded Tomljanovic.

She is playing at Wimbledon for the second time in her life. She lost in the fourth round.

Halep has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon three times. She is the only woman to have won a Grand Slam.

Halep said that it meant a lot to be back in the semifinals.

All four of her victories at this year's tournament have come in straight sets. When Halep was serving for the match, she was broken by the American.

When Halep again served for the match at 4-5, she lost five straight points to finish the match.

Halep didn't know what to do after she crushed the ball. I had faith in myself. I said that I need to be strong on my legs.

Halep withdrew from the French Open and Wimbledon because of a calf injury. She began working with Patrick in April.

In the other match, she lost the first set but rebounded to win the next two.

I started slowly. I didn't do a good job. Maybe I was afraid. "Ajla was playing really well, she was defending really good, and I just tried to focus on my serve to find my way, and I found it.''
