The alleged Highland Park shooter appears to have slipped through the cracks that Congress recently tried patching up with new gun legislation... with his dad helping him to obtain a gun even with a ton of warning signs he wasn't fit to own one According to authorities, Robert's father sponsored his son for a FOID card, which he needed to purchase a semi-automatic weapon, despite the fact that he had been involved in a number of violent incidents. In the past year, authorities have had two run-ins with the man, one in which he threatened to kill himself and the other in which he threatened to kill his own family. Law enforcement took multiple weapons from him after his parents refused to press charges and he told them he wasn't a danger. The weapon used in Monday's killing was able to be given to Crimo because there was no reason to refuse him. He had his old man sign off that anyone should not treat him like anyone else. There have been reports of his disturbing social media activity, which should've been caught and flagged, but wasn't. At least 7 people are dead and several others are injured as a result of all of this. The parents of Crimo issued a statement that sympathized with everyone and prayed for the victims. The gun safety bill that President Biden just signed into law is supposed to address and fix situations like this one, where a person is able to legally purchase a weapon even if they have previously committed crimes. If mental health issues are found, it disqualifies someone from buying a gun. It seems the bill was too late because it was obvious that he had a gun for a couple years. After the shooting, Crimo was on the run, until cops tracked him down and arrested him. He is charged with 7 counts of first degree murder. There is a court appearance this week.
