Five players, including two from Athletic Bilbao, have switched their international loyalties toGhana.

Both Williams and Lamptey were born in London and represented England at youth levels.

After being left out of the England Under-21 squad for the European U21 Championship, Lamptey wanted to switch to West Africa.

They are the fourth and fifth players based in Germany to commit to the Black Stars for the upcoming World Cup.

Pfeiffer is an uncapped German born defender who plays for Darmstadt 98, but the duo of Konigsdorffer and Ambrosius have represented Germany at under-21 level.

Their availability is expected to help the West Africans get to the next level.

Kurt Okraku said that the availability of these players meant a lot to the Black Stars.

We will not limit ourselves to a small group of players, but will scout top talents across the globe who are ready to sacrifice for the nation and take us to the next level.

The technical team now has more options to choose from when it comes to improving the team.

Coach Otto Addo and his technical team will keep an eye on them for future assignments, including the World Cup in Qatar.

Negative to positive headlines

The decision by the GFA to make public overtures toward diaspora-born players has caused a lot of division among fans of the four-time African champion.

The recent capture and contribution of Belgian-born Denis Odoi towards their World Cup qualification is starting to change that.

"This [commitment of the quintet] follows exhaustive engagements between the leadership of the GFA, the players and their parents in the last few months. The players are therefore available for selection in our upcoming international fixtures," the GFA said in a statement.

The rule allows players to switch teams more easily.

If a player has played no more than three competitive matches at senior level prior to their 21st birthday, they can switch national sides.

It's not possible to change eligibility if you're in the World Cup or the European Championships.

The new Black Stars

The availability of the five is a huge boost for the team as they prepare for the World Cup, where they will face Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

Williams became the first black player to score in the history of Athletic when he netted against Torino in February 2015.

He wanted to play for Spain at a young age, but after making his senior international debut for La Roja in 2015, he was left out.

He waited seven years for the chance to swap the colors of Spain for the black stars kit.

"Today a new challenge begins. From now on, I will defend Ghana's T-shirt with all my will whilst I give my best. I'm one of the Black Stars," Williams said in a video on social media.

In May of this year, Lamptey asked to be left out of the England U21 squad for matches against the Czech Republic, Albania, Kosovo and Yugoslavia.

Chris Hughton, a technical advisor for the Black Stars, was involved in the decision to switch allegiance.

Addo, who was born in Germany, was a major influence in convincing Odoi and the others to pledge their allegiance to the West African nation.

The Black Stars reached the round of 16 at the World Cup in 2006 and Addo was a part of the team.

He guided the Black Stars to qualification for the World Cup after they beat Nigeria on the away goals.

He was given a contract extension by the end of the year.
