Amazon has a stake in Just Eat's U.S. meal delivery business.
This isn't the first time the company has tried to deliver food. Amazon shut down its in-house delivery service, Amazon Restaurants, in the middle of the year.
The option to increase the holding to 15 percent will be available to the tech giant. According to a news outlet, the stock of Just Eat Takeaway, the largest meal delivery company in Europe, fell by 67 percent this year. The deal is good news for the company since shareholders wanted it to either sell the business or find a partner for it.
According to Just Eat, the membership agreement will be renewed every year if either Amazon or GrubHub decides to end it.
U.S. Prime users will be able to get a free one-year membership to GrubHub+. Delivery fees over $12 from hundreds of thousands of restaurants will not be charged by the company. Free delivery on orders is one of the benefits of being a member of the premium subscription service.
The District of Columbia alleges multiple violations of D.C.'s Consumer Protection Procedures Act in March and has recently come under scrutiny for hidden fees.
The partnership will help GrubHub continue to deliver on its long-standing mission to connect more diners with local restaurants, according to the CEO of the company.
Around a year ago, Amazon gave away free GrubHub+ memberships to Prime Student members. The partnership is an expansion of such offerings.
