Austin FC has attracted a lot of attention. In its sophomore season, the goals have flowed, and so have the victories.

The Verde had a home loss to the LA Galaxy that gave the impression that they weren't ready for the Supporters' Shield, but they bounced back with a win over the Colorado Rapids. Austin is two points back of the top spot after LAFC lost to the Whitecaps. Austin is poised to make it a two-horse race in the West if the Black and Gold's slip-up is any indication.

New York City FC's loss of form and stumbles by the Philadelphia Union and Montreal resulted in the New York Red Bulls taking the top spot in the East. The Red Bulls have the best road record in MLS. Austin is a city in the state of Texas.

With Week 17 in the books, Jeff and Austin look at the results, break down where all 28 teams stand, and give you the MLS Power Rankings.

1. LAFC

The previous ranking was one.

The next MLS match is on July 8th. It's on ABC.

The Black and Gold didn't generate a lot of offense in this one, so they won't have a lot of complaints about coughing up a late winner. This week's edition of El Trafico will feature Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale, who will be able to play in the summer window.

2. Austin FC

The previous ranking was four.

The next MLS match is on July 9th at Atlanta United FC. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Taking two wins on the road in the dog days of summer, following points in four of its past five games, is the sort of string of results that can propel a club like Austin into the playoffs.

3. New York Red Bulls

The previous ranking was six.

The next MLS match is on July 9. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

The Red Bulls moved into the top spot of the Eastern Conference after picking up six points in 72 hours. The team has taken points from seven of its last ten league matches.

4. New York City FC

The previous ranking was three.

The next MLS match is on July 9. Time.

NYCFC has a winless run of four games. The MLS Cup winners are in a bad place. They can take solace in the fact that Castellanos leads the league in goal scoring with 10 on the season.

play

The go-head goal was scored by Serge Ngoma in the 89th minute for the New York Red Bulls.

5. Real Salt Lake

The previous rank was 2.

The next MLS match is on July 9. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

It wasn't enough for Real Salt Lake to avoid defeat, as they scored twice after falling behind. Jefferson Savarino looked like he had never been away, with two goals and two assists in five matches. Real Salt Lake continue to punch above their weight despite the loss.

6. Philadelphia Union

The previous ranking was five.

The next MLS match is against D.C. United. It's on ABC.

Philadelphia's attack has been shut out twice in the past week in losses to Chicago and Columbus. For a team that once looked far and away the best team in the East, it's further evidence that they've returned to the mean.

7. CF Montreal

The previous ranking was ten.

The next MLS match is on July 9th. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Montreal's West Coast swing got off on the right foot, with a 2-1 win over Seattle, only for it to end on a sour note with a four goal thumping at the hands of the LA GALAXY. The Quebecois are just three points away from the top of the Eastern Conference and have a game in hand over the Red Bulls.

8. Nashville SC

The previous ranking was eight.

July 9 is the next MLS match. Time.

Nashville is still one of the better defensive teams in MLS, but there have been some head-scratching moments. It couldn't hold on to a two- goal lead against Portland on Sunday. NSC would still expect to see that match out even though a keeper error played a part.

play

Hany Mukhtar hit the bottom right corner of the net to give NashvilleSC a 2-0 lead.

9. FC Dallas

The previous ranking was seven.

The next MLS match is on July 9th. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Dallas felt it should have done better than a home draw with Miami because it had so many chances. Alan Velasco's tally from a free kick was outstanding, but the fact that he was able to tie the game late will stick in the craw. FCD have lost in four games.

10. Seattle Sounders

The previous rank was 11.

The next MLS match is on July 9. Time.

After a loss to Montreal, Brain Schmetzer showed some faith in his depth, and it paid off with a road victory over Toronto. The victory continued Seattle's climb up the table and now they are fifth in the Western Conference.

11. LA Galaxy

The previous rank was 9.

The next MLS match is on July 8. It's on ABC.

Greg Vanney decided to go with the same forward duo from the start and it paid off with a four goal victory over Montreal that saw both players score. It helped to make up for the loss to Minnesota.

12. FC Cincinnati

The previous ranking was 13.

The next MLS match is against the Red Bulls. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Cincinnati has points in four straight and is in the fight to host a playoff game this fall, but most exciting is the form of the 22-year-old, who has five goals in his past three games.

play

FC Cincinnati took advantage of a turnover in the middle of the field to score a goal.

13. New England Revolution

The previous ranking was fourteen.

The next MLS match is at New York City FC. Time.

After the 2-2 stalemate with Cincinnati, the Revs have now drawn six of their past nine, which isn't great for a team that wants to defend its Supporters' Shield. The other results were not included. All victories.

14. Orlando City

The previous ranking was twelve.

The next MLS match is on July 9th. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

According to the story of the expected goals, Oscar Pareja's team was unlucky to lose to D.C., but to fall behind quickly against a team fighting to stay out of the Eastern Conference cellar is not a good reflection.

15. Minnesota United

The previous rank was 23.

The next MLS match is on July 8th. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

If Emanuel Reynoso is at his best, there's no stopping the Loons. The Argentine's four goals and one assist helped Minnesota to a pair of wins.

16. Vancouver Whitecaps

The previous rank was 22.

The next MLS match is against Minnesota United. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

The Whitecaps have taken 20 points from their last nine games, including Sunday's win over LAFC. Cubas won the game in the 89th minute.

play

Leonardo Campana scored in the 88th minute to give Inter Miami a draw with FC Dallas.

17. Inter Miami CF

The previous rank was 16.

The next MLS match is on July 9th. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Leonardo Campana's goal in the 88th minute was the least Miami deserved from its trip to Dallas.

18. Charlotte FC

The previous rank was 19

The next MLS match is on July 9th. Time.

There's no shame in losing at home to one of the league leaders in Austin, and this year's expansion club quickly made up for it by winning on the road for the first time in its history.

19. Columbus Crew

The previous ranking was twenty.

The next MLS match is at Chicago Fire FC. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

The Crew have been shut out in eight of their last 13 MLS games. The team is the seventh worst in the league in scoring.

20. Portland Timbers

The previous rank was 21.

The next MLS match is on July 9th. Time.

The Timbers have won their past four matches and are now just a point away from the playoffs. Portland picked up a valuable road point against Nashville thanks to Eryk Williamson's play in the middle and his assist on Jaroslaw Niezgoda's goal.

play

The two teams combined for three goals in the second half for a 2-2 draw.

21. Atlanta United FC

The previous rank was 17

The next MLS match is on July 9. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Atlanta's two-game swing in New York doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, even though they drew with NYCFC and lost to the Red Bulls.

22. Colorado Rapids

The previous ranking was 18.

The next MLS match is on July 9. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

The Rapids blew a two-goal lead and fell to Austin. With the team winless in four games, Colorado looks a shadow of the one that won the Western Conference in 2021.

23. Houston Dynamo

The previous ranking was fifteen.

The next MLS match is against FC Dallas. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Houston's loss to an expansion side at home is a body blow for the team, who are sinking fast in the West. This week, he will be eligible, and he will need to be great to get the team back into the playoffs.

24. Toronto FC

The previous rank was 24.

The next MLS match is on July 9. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

They have lost to Columbus and Seattle seven times in their past eleven contests and there is only one question left in Toronto: Is Lorenzo Insigne here yet?

play

The Earthquakes tried their luck on goal three times, twice hitting the woodwork, before Benjamin Kikanovic finally scored.

25. San Jose Earthquakes

The previous rank was 26.

The next MLS match is at Toronto FC. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

At the moment, it's hard to read the Quakes. They are still winless on the road this season despite being better under Alex Covelo. All the more reason to cook at home, which they did in a 2-1 win over Chicago.

26. D.C. United

The previous rank was 28.

The next MLS match is on July 8. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

The American capital club scored more goals in 96 minutes than it had in the previous five games.

27. Chicago Fire

The previous rank was 27.

The next MLS match is against Columbus Crew. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

Chicago scored one goal in each of the two losses. The Fire have scored more than one goal in just four games this year.

28. Sporting Kansas City

The previous rank was 25.

The next MLS match is on July 9th. There is an hour and a half on the Disney+ channel.

The Red Bulls were able to score the only goal of the game because of slack marking by SKC, who played with a man advantage for the final 17 minutes. Kansas City has the lowest points in MLS this year.
