Ian Poulter at Adare Manor
Poulter was one of a number of players at Adare Manor this week heading to East Lothian for the Scottish Open which starts on Thursday

As Ian Poulter claimed he doesn't expect a hostile reception in the Scottish Open locker room, Billy Horschel launched a vicious attack on the players, calling them hypocrites and liars.

After winning the first stage of a legal battle, Ian Poulter is eligible for this week's co-sanctioned event at the Renaissance Club.

The Englishman was banned from the Genesis Scottish Open after taking part in the opening event of the Saudi-funded series.

They should play there on that tour. "They shouldn't be going back to the PGA Tour or the World Tour," said the reigning BMW PGA champion.

I don't think it's right to say that they wanted to support both the PGA Tour and theDP World going forward.

It's sad that those guys made their bed, but they want to do that. It's time to leave us alone.

There are a lot of guys that are hypocrites that are not telling the truth.

I can no longer be diplomatic about it.

He will arrive at the tournament after playing at the JP McManus Pro-Am. Concerns that he will face hostility from his peers were dismissed.

"My reception here has been unbelievable with the 40,000 fans that we've had," he said.

If the guys in the locker room don't like it, that's up to them. The players have not had a problem with me.

We have a difference of opinion but we are still friends, which is nice when you've played golf with these players for a living.

It's a business decision, not a personal one, and I class a lot of people out here on tour as my friends.

"We followed the procedure that was laid out in front by the tour for an appeal process and we've obviously won that appeal." Two Spanish players received stays to play in Scotland.

The Scottish Open field may be expanded before the tournament starts. The field for the event would normally be 156 players, but the European-based circuit's chief has accepted "the field size will increase".

I think it was the right decision and I'm looking forward to the week.

He said that he has been receiving "distressing" messages on social media since signing up for the lucrative LIV circuit, which this year boasts seven $25m-20m tournaments and a final event worth $50m.

It's not a good place to be at night to be reading. In some respects, it's distressing. They are people's opinions, but it has become very nasty.

He refused to say if he was fighting the PGA Tour's decision to indefinitely suspend the LIV rebels.

He didn't want to say anything on that side. The focus is to play next week, to play the Open Championship, and then see where it goes from there.

The following week's Open Championship is a little further north on the Old Course at St Andrew's, so it's vital that he participates on the Scottish east coast.

He said it's Links golf. I've been playing the Scottish Open for a long time. I don't know how many Scottish Opens I have played but it has been an awful lot.

The 150th Open at St Andrew is significant to me. It will be my last Open at St Andrew's so I wanted to have some links golfprep before I go.
