A-319 Easyjet aircraft

A Spanish fighter jet intercepts a commercial flight. The easyJet plane was escorted all the way to its island destination by a fighter jet after a teenager posted a fake bomb threat to social media.

The flight from London to Menorca was delayed due to security checks and was escorted by military aircraft as it landed in Menorca. The safety and security of its passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority.

A group of five friends were travelling with an 18-year old British national who was accused of making a false threat. The teenager was arrested in Spain and is waiting for a court hearing. The Spanish Civil Guard didn't reply immediately.

The flight arrived at the Menorca airport 30 minutes later than it was supposed to because it was in a security screening area. Passengers were allowed off the plane one by one and asked to identify their luggage after about two hours. The baggage was inspected by bomb detection dogs. There were delays and changes due to the incident.

The passengers were disembarked and established protocol followed until police could confirm it was a false bomb threat and the person responsible was identified on social media along with five other companions as witnesses. The Spanish Civil Guard told The Guardian that they took them to a police station to clarify the situation.

A passenger on the flight recorded a video of the Spanish Civil Guard jet in the sky. A military signal is used to indicate the intercept of a fighter craft.

The easyJet flight that was reported to be based on the orange wing tips in the video was an A-319 aircraft, which typically carries 120-150 passengers.
