Given the imminent threat, the pacing was changed.

We don't wrap things up at the end of 4 so it's going to be moving I don't know how fast it's going to go, but it's going to be moving pretty fast. The characters will be in action, they will have a goal and a drive, and that will make this season feel different. The wrap-up will be a lot longer and it will have eight endings.

In addition to this, they say that the series will return to Hawkins alone as the main location, a change from season 4 where characters were also in Russia, Nevada and California at times. The final 30 minutes of the series are already clear in their head as they begin writing in August. Will, who has a direct connection to Vecna, will be a heavily featured character in season 5, more so than he has been in the past.

They concluded by saying that all this can change. Matt Duffer said he wouldn't trust a word that came out of his mouth because we got nine with two 90-minute and one 2.5 hour episodes.
