Paul Pogba
Several of last season's Manchester United team will feel they have a point to prove

The man who left Manchester United this summer said he wanted to show the club he was wrong.

The Frenchman won the World Cup with his country, but did not win a trophy at club level during his time at United.

He only scored eight goals in his last three campaigns.

There is more than one big name with a point to prove this season.

Who else needs a big campaign from players who had disappointing loan spells to players who have barely played?

Dele Alli

In the past four years, Dele Alli's stock price has plummeted.

He scored 46 goals from the middle of the field in his first three years at Spurs.

In the next three-and-a-half years, he only scored 21 goals, and Spurs let him go for nothing.

Alli failed to score in any of his 11 appearances and only had one start in half a season.

Can the man who avoided the drop fare better for the team this year? Who knows what will happen to the one-time England international if he doesn't.

Donny van de Beek

It is hard to think of a better time for a managerial appointment than the one for ten Hag.

He scored 32 goals before he left for United.

He only made four starts for the club in almost a year and a half under Solskjaer.

Under Ten Hag, he has a chance to become a key part of the team and prove Solskjaer wrong.

Billy Gilmour

Billy Gilmour's reputation seems to have been damaged by his loan spell.

Many expected a loan spell at Norwich and a season of regular football to be the making of Gilmour after 22 appearances as a teenager.

He failed to score a goal in only 60% of the games he played for the Canaries, as they were thrown out of the top flight.

It's a big season for the Scot, whether he stays at the club or goes somewhere else.

Romelu Lukaku

The second time around, it was not a good one.

When he joined from Inter Milan, he was supposed to be the missing piece in the puzzle.

He scored 15 goals, but there was a feeling that he wasn't being played to his strengths and he was out of the team.

He is back at Inter on a loan and he will want to show his manager what he could have done if he had a team around him.

Marcus Rashford

Obama: "Marcus is way ahead of where I was at 23"

With a big season at Manchester United, Marcus Rashford will be able to prove that his off-field work has not interfered with his football.

The young man made headlines in 2020 when he persuaded the government to give free school meal vouchers to children during the summer.

He won book of the year at the British Book Awards for You are A Champion.

He wasn't included in the England squad for their Nations League games this summer because he hadn't scored a goal in six months.

If he gets a good start to the season, he should be in the England squad for the World Cup in the winter.

Dean Henderson

Dean Henderson has about three months to play himself into England's World Cup squad after joiningNottingham Forest.

At the end of 2020-21, he appeared to have overtaken David de Gea to become United's first-choice keeper - and was named in England's Euro 2020 squad, despite pulling out through injury.

After three full seasons of football, that came after a loan spell with Shrewsberry.

He only played in three cup games last season and hasn't added to his England cap.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

It's too good for the Championship and not good enough for the premier league.

For the third time in five years, Slavisa Jokanovic and his team are in the top flight.

The Serbian scored 11 goals in the league. It was three in 2020.

He scored a record 43 goals in 44 games last year. Is this the season that he finally gets a promotion?

Jesse Lingard

When he finds a new club, Jesse Lingard will want to prove to Manchester United that they should have given him more of a chance.

He joined West Ham on a loan 18 months ago after his career seemed to be petering out. He won the player and goal of the month for the month of April.

After scoring two times off the bench in September, he only made four starts the rest of the season.

He was never given a chance in the team despite Manchester United not selling him in January.

At the end of his contract, he left Old Manchester.
