Biden 'shocked' by the July 4 mass shooting in Highland Park, says he won't 'give up fighting the epidemic of gun violence'

After a mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, the lastest in a string of high-profile incidents involving gun violence, President Joe Biden expressed shock.

The president and first lady said in a statement that they were thankful for the first responders and police officers who were on the scene.

We are shocked by the gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on the 4th of July. He thanked the first responders and law enforcement on the scene.

I have offered the federal government's full support to the governor and mayor of Illinois. I asked federal law enforcement to help in the search for the shooter. He said that members of the community should follow guidance from leadership on the ground and that he would keep an eye on them.

At least six people were killed and another 24 were seriously injured at the parade in Highland Park.

There is no explanation for the shooting.
