Ain't a Marriott Bonvoy? We had unused Marriott Suite Night Awards that were due to expire on June 30th, but we were able to extend them. It was reported last week by Loyalty Lobby that Marriott had extended the SNA's. Bonvoy members are still sitting on stacks of expired certs and they decided to complain.

I checked my account and found that the one SNA that I had had an extension on. Some of the team members had theirs extended. It is rare for Marriott to surprise us with joy.

Bonvoy members aren't so fast. Marriott told us that this cannot stand.

We received a note from Marriott saying that the extensions had been in error and that they were not able to extend them further.

Hahaha, Marriott. You really got us this time.

I am confused by this edition ofbonvoyed. They aren't high-value. You can only apply them at select brands and each certificate is only valid for a single night. They don't clear until a maximum of five nights before a stay and so don't take up inventory that would otherwise be sold The most common complaint about them is how hard it is to clear them.

I understand that Marriott made a mistake by extending these certificates. When they discovered it, I think they would just let the extensions ride and enjoy the goodwill that they created. It's pointless to retroactively re-explode them because members who thought Marriott did a good job will be even more upset. It doesn't seem to have much upside, it's a customer unfriendly move.

Marriott, enjoy those SNAs. You might have better luck using them than we did.
