The basketball player wrote a letter to the White House and the president asking for help in getting her freedom from Russia.

The excerpts from the letter were released by representatives of the player.

One excerpt said "I realize you are dealing with so much, but please don't forget about me and the other American Detainedees." Do everything you can to bring us home.

She wrote that she was terrified that she might be here forever. The personal significance of the Fourth of July to her and her family was explained by the Phoenix Mercury center. She made a direct appeal to the president. You can help restore the freedom by helping me.

The woman was arrested at an airport in Russia and has been held there since. In May, the U.S. Department of State classified her as wrongly imprisoned. She has been in jail for over 100 days.

The two-time U.S. Olympic gold medal winner was kept in jail for another six months. The trial was adjourned until July 7 after the initial session. If he is found guilty of large-scale transportation of drugs, he could face up to ten years in prison.

"I wouldn't want to talk about the specifics of the case and the charges at this time, because it's too early for it," said Alexander Boykov, an attorney for the man.

It has been speculated that a prisoner exchange would be required. During a June 26 appearance on CNN, the Secretary of State refused to discuss a potential exchange.

It's a general proposition. I want to make sure that Americans who are being illegally held around the world come home. I can only say that this is an absolute priority.

"I miss my wife!" was the last excerpt from the letter. I don't have my family anymore. I don't like my teammates. I don't think it's right that they are suffering right now. I'm grateful for everything you can do to get me back.
