Former President Donald Trump would make things worse according to Sen. Romney.

Romney, a senator from Utah and former GOP presidential nominee, wrote in The Atlantic that Donald Trump's return would feed the sickness.

The nation's "blithe dismissal of potentially catastrophic threats" is the subject of the essay.

He cited Trump's false assertions that he won the 2020 election as a classic example of denial. "Maybe this is the same delusion that leads people to feed money into slot machines: Because I really want to win, I believe that I will win," he said.

Romney said that leadership is the only cure.

'A genuinely good man, but'

He wrote that Biden has yet to break through the national malady of denial, deceit, and distrust.

He wrote that Congress is disappointing because they put a finger in the wind more often than they show strength against it.

He hoped that a president who could rise above the din would unite us. Several contender with experience and smarts stand in the wings; we watch to see if they also possess the character and ability to bring the nation together in confronting our common reality.

Romney was critical of Trump during the election, calling him a "phony" and a "fraud".

Romney was the first senator to vote in favor of removing a president from his own party because of what he described as Trump's abuse of public trust. He voted to convict Trump for abusing his power by withholding $400 million in military aid from the Ukranian.

Romney was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in his impeachment trial.
