You can now remotely watch Amazon Prime Video shows and movies with your friends. The service's "Watch Party" feature has received a much needed expansion from the limited use cases where it worked before, and it now supports non-Amazon streaming devices, smart TVs, and consoles. The expansion was reported by the tech site.
Prime subscribers can view content at the same time at the watch party. The host can play, pause, skip, and fast forward for the group, and everyone can talk about what they are watching.
The watch party feature is only available in the US. If you are using a virtual private network, an error message is displayed. Everyone has access to content that is free to watch. Everyone has the right to watch a movie that can only be rented. Thursday Night Football is not compatible with Watch Party.
While many of these group viewing experiences popped up, Amazon began testing watch party in 2019. GroupWatch is a similar feature to the one offered by Disney Plus and other streaming TV apps.
