Tourists will be charged 10 to visit Venice.

In order to tackle overcrowding, Venice will require day-trippers to make prior reservations and pay a fee.

The new rules for day-trippers will take effect on January 16th,23.

Visitors will be charged between 3 and 10 depending on the season and how far in advance the booking was made. The fine for tourists who don't show their confirmation is 300.

Some day-trippers won't have to pay the entry fee. Students and residents of the Veneto region are included.

The entrance fee will be avoided by overnight hotel guests because they already pay a tourist tax through their hotel.

The goal is not to close the city but to get people to book their visit to reduce the tourist peaks.

Venice has to stay that way, according to him.

Venice wants to find a balance between long-term and short-term visitors.

Tourists can outnumber residents in a city that's 5 square km.

Venice has a population of just over 50,000, a fraction of what it was a few generations ago.

The reservation approach was put on hold because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
