The social media accounts of the British Army were hacked.

The army's social media accounts were taken over by a hacker on Sunday. The name of the account was changed topss bannersd and its profile picture was changed to look like a token collection.

A new verified SCAM account was warned by the Possessed's official account.

The banner image of the account was changed to a cartoon ape with clown makeup. The hacker started sharing posts promoting NFT.

CNBC sent a direct message on the social networking site.

The U.K. military changed the name of its YouTube account to Ark Invest, which is an investment firm with ties to both the electric car company and the virtual currency.

All of the account's videos were deleted and replaced with clips from a conversation with Musk and Jack that was hosted by Ark. Users were directed to scam websites by adding text to the broadcasts.

The accounts have been returned to their owners.

The British Ministry of Defense said Monday that the Army's accounts had been hacked and an investigation was under way.

It would be inappropriate to comment further until the investigation is complete.

The British Army's account was locked and secured after it was compromised.

The account is back up and running after the account holders regained access.

When contacted by CNBC, a representative from YouTube was unavailable.

The lawmaker who chairs the defense committee in Parliament said the incident looked serious.

The results of the investigation will be shared.

It is not the first time a high-profile social media account has been used to promote a scam. The accounts of Musk, Biden, and many others were taken over in 2020 to scam their followers.
