  • Many people's views of the modern world were destroyed by Putin.

  • Past imperialists thought they could just take territory of their neighbors.

  • The landscape in Europe has changed due to the war in Ukraine.

The idea that the world has moved beyond countries that have invaded their neighbors has been destroyed by the war in Ukraine, according to the Chancellor of Germany.

During an interview with CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday, Margaret Brennan asked if the war represented a wake-up call for Europe.

There should be no attempt to change territory, to change borders or to invade the neighbor. It was a "watershed moment of international politics" when the agreement was canceled by Putin.

He told Brennan that Europe and Germany should have been prepared for this possibility.

What are Putin's thoughts? The imperialists in the 17th, 18th, 19th century were similar to him. He thinks that if you are strong enough, you can take control of your neighbors. This is an activity that we can't accept and we won't accept either.

He believes that Western leaders can convince Putin that it's not working and that he won't succeed.

Europe has been affected by Russia's invasion of Ukranian. The strategy to never send weapons to a country in conflict was one of the changes Germany made. Heavy weapons were delivered to Ukraine last month.

After Putin's invasion, Sweden and Finland are considering joining NATO.
