California's governor aired a political ad on the Fourth of July that criticized Florida's policies on abortion, children's books, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBT) community.

They are both running for reelection. There have been rumors that Newsom could run for President in 2024. There are rumors that DeSantis will run for president in 24 years.

In the video, Newsom says "freedom is under attack in your state" as an image of DeSantis shaking Trump's hand is shown.

A Florida judge has blocked the state's 15-week abortion ban, as well as the math book ban and the "Don't Say Gay" bill.

"It's Independence Day," he said in the ad. What's going on in America? In your state, Republican leaders are banning books, making it harder to vote, and even criminalizing women and doctors.

"I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight, or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom: freedom of speech, freedom to choose freedom from hate, and the freedom to love," says the governor. They should not take your freedom.

In response to the ad, Fried said, "Thanks, but I've got him"

Insider's request for comment was not immediately responded to by representatives of the two men.
