After leaving Sunday's game against the Cubs with a left thigh laceration that required seven stitches, he is day-to- day.

After being spiked on a stolen base attempt by Willson Contreras,aerts broke his ankle. His status is not clear.

After a collision with Alex Verdugo during a win over the SeattleMariners in May,aerts was forced to miss a game. He returned to the lineup the next day.

It's not ideal that the 29-year-old misses time because of an injury. He has been one of the team's best hitters this season, batting.321/.393/.465 with six home runs and 31 runs scored.

In order to get a more lucrative long-term extension with the Red Sox,aerts plans to decline his player option with the team.

The three-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger has spent his entire 10-year career in Boston.

The Red Bruins have some options at the position. While he's mostly played at second base, they signed former Colorado Rockies star Trevor Story, who is a natural at that position.

Additional time at the position could be seen by Christian. If Story shifted to short, he could play second base.

The New York Yankees hold the top spot in the American League East with a 45-21 record.
