According to an NBA insider, the Los Angeles Lakers will be getting a new player in the next year or two.

Stein said that James wanted to see Irving more than anyone else.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the Lakers and Nets are talking about a trade centered around Irving. The two sides will continue to work out the rest of the compensation in order to get a deal done.

Prior to Irving opting into the final year of his contract with the Nets, the Lakers were considered a potential target for him in a sign-and-trade.

Irving wants to join the Lakers as soon as possible, whether this year or next, according to Stephen A. Smith.

If the trade ends up happening, it's possible that a smooth transition could be created.

James and Irving won one title and reached the NBA Finals in three straight seasons. There was an ugly divorce when Irving asked for a trade, but the point guard says he was immature at that time in his career.

The lack of team success could allow both players to forget their past disagreements.

Los Angeles lost in the first round of the playoffs in both 2020 and 2021. Brooklyn got swept in the first round of the playoffs after earning the 7th seed in the East.

The Lakers could once again be a threat to win a title if Irving and James can team up again.
