A listeria outbreak blamed for the death of one person and the hospitalization of 22 people in 10 states has been linked to ice cream made in Florida.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the company that sells ice cream in Florida is a family owned business. The C.D.C. said that 10 of those hospitalized had visited Florida in the previous month.

The C.D.C. said that people less than a year old to 92 years old were affected by the infections. Fetal loss was experienced by one of the five who became ill during their pregnancies.

Fourteen people told the C.D.C that they had eaten ice cream. Six people said they had ice cream at a location where the brand could have been supplied.

The company's website states that the ice cream is made by Amish craftsmen near the village of Pinecraft.

The C.D.C. advised customers to discard any remaining products from the brand after Big Olaf started contacting retail locations to recommend against selling the product. There is a partial recall that has not been issued.

Representatives from Big Olaf were not available on Sunday.

There is a disease that can be fatal if you are a person with the listeria bacterium. 1,600 people contract listeriosis in the US each year from contaminated food.

The C.D.C. said that infections can cause flulike symptoms, such as vomiting and achy muscles, which can start about two weeks after eating food that has been contaminated with the bacterium. It can take months for a severe case to develop.

According to the F.D.A., people with compromised immune systems are particularly vulnerable to become ill from listeria.

According to the C.D.C., about one in five people with listeriosis die from the disease.

According to the C.D.C., the number of people affected by an outbreak is usually higher than reported.
