  • Google has announced that visits to abortion clinics will be automatically removed from users' location histories.
  • Visits to other sensitive health-related facilities will also be subject to the auto-delete protocol.

Users who want to end their pregnancies can now have their visits to abortion clinics erased from their location history. The protocol will come into effect soon.

Women have the right to have an abortion in the U.S. after the Supreme Court overturned it. Concerns were raised that prosecutors in states where abortion is illegal could use location data from tech companies to track down women.

After visiting an abortion clinic, location data will be deleted by default, according to a post by the search engine. Trips to counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, fertility clinics, addiction treatment facilities, weight loss clinics, and cosmetic surgery clinics are all covered by this.

The location history of a user is turned off. You can manually clear your location history if you choose. You can remove trips saved in your location history with the help of the activity controls on the internet.

Concerns have been raised that location data could be used to track people who visit abortion clinics in states where abortion is not allowed. The Federal Trade Commission is being urged by a number of lawmakers to investigate the practices of Apple and Google in regards to their mobile tacking practices.

Fitzpatrick said that the company doesn't always comply with government requests.

Fitzpatrick said that they will oppose demands that are overly broad or otherwise objectionable.
