Alexander Volkanovski has ended his rivalry with MaxHolloway.

The highly anticipated trilogy bout between Volkanovski and Holloway ended in a unanimous decision. The judges scored the title fight 50-45 for the defending champ.

The most definitive result of the trilogy was Saturday's five round contest. In December and July of 2020, the two met for the second and third time. The fights were very close, especially the second one. Some in the sport still thought that Holloway was the true champion after the second fight.

The fight was played out on the feet, with neither fighter attempting a submission until the last round. Holloway was able to move forward but was unable to land consistent offense on Volkanovski. Volkanovski was the one who punishedHolloway. He damaged his nose with shots in the fourth and cut his left eyebrow in the second round.

Since their first fight, Volkanovski has emerged as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He has defended the title against several people. Dana White supports the idea of him moving up to lightweight to challenge for a second belt.

Volkanovski has won 22 fights in a row. A two-fight win streak has ended. Volkanovski has been his only loss at the position in the last two and a half years.

Fight in progress: Middleweight championship: Israel Adesanya (c) (22-1, 11-1 UFC, -490) vs. Jared Cannonier (15-5, 8-5 UFC, +370)

  • The first round was won by Israel Adesanya. They don't throw a lot of shots as they feel each other out. Good leg kicks were traded.

  • The second round has Adesanya up 20-18. Cannonier is not scoring any offense of his own. He's navigating Adesanya's range with some degree of comfort, but he may be looking for that perfect shot. Is he going to increase output in the next three rounds?

  • The third round was very slow. Cannonier has a sense of urgentness. It looks to make it look bad. He was trying to use his physical strength in the fight. It's not very successful. He's not scoring any points. Adesanya is on 30 and 27.

  • Adesanya did surgical rounds in the fourth round. Counterstriking is accurate. Cannonier has no plan to score. He isn't able to get Adesanya to the ground and his pressure isn't enough to wear on the champ. 40-34 Adesanya.

There was a standing lead elbow up the middle. The boxing combinations backed him up to the fence. The referee stopped the fight.

"It's everything I've been dreaming of and more," Barberena said. He was under a lot of pressure. He had the right time. It's an honor to fight him, he's a legend.

In the second round, O'Malley seemed to land harder with his hands, but it was still a close fight. Munhoz won on two of the judges scorecards.

Miller and Cerrone both tried to kick the ball. Miller grabbed a standing front headlock and jumped for the guillotine after Cerrone partially landed a head kick. Cerrone had no choice but to tap.

Miller said the kick landed well. I was struck in the neck. I was reminiscing about our first meeting.

Miller has won three in a row for the first time in two years. Since 2008, the New Jersey native has fought in the UFC 40 and has fought in the most fights.

Over the last year, Du Plessis has started and stopped. He reminded everyone in the Octagon on Saturday that he's still a serious prospect at 185 pounds despite the four canceled fights.

In a back-and-forth, bloody battle, Du Plessis was the winner by unanimous decision. Du Plessis put a stamp on things with a big third round after a strong first round in which he dropped Tavares with a right hand.

It looked like Du Plessis was going to take the fight to the ground. He stuck with the standup game even though he couldn't get the guy down. There was more of that in the third round as well.

Du Plessis has been in the UFC for three years. The fighter from South Africa has won five times in a row. He had a two-fight winning streak snapped.

Eye decided to retire in her postfight interview with Joe Rogan.

Eye thought it was time. Since 2009, I have been a pro. I have had a lot of UFC fights.

The Eye was kept at bay by Barber. Eye wanted to get Barber to the ground. Eye got Barber down in the second round, but she didn't do a lot of damage. A large hematoma was caused by a big elbow that Barber landed in the first round.
