According to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic, the restricted free agent forward is returning to the Hornets on a four-year, $32 million contract.

He has been with the Hornets for three NBA seasons. He averaged 7.7 points on 48.6 percent shooting (38.6 percent from three-point range), 4.0 rebound and 2.5 assists in 26.3 minutes per game. Martin started 11 games.

Charlotte chose Martin with the 36th pick in the draft. His brother is a player for the Heat.

James Plowright of All Hornets noted that it's rare to see a second round pick sign a second contract with their original team.

Martin got a well- deserved contract after a good year. Brian Geisinger of SportsChannel8 said that they had good things to say.

Salute to Cody Martin - a player development success story: 2nd round pick to $32 million. Make or break season for him shooting the ball, and he drilled 38 3P% of his corner 3PA, while adding second-side + transition slashing and solid team defense. Makes winning plays. https://t.co/8pasnUp1hZ

Cody Martin is a good utility wing who dramatically increased his offensive efficiency and was one of the few reliable perimeter defenders the Hornets had. 8m per puts him right in line (if not more affordable) with other non-rookie deal utility wings.

The Hornets made it to the play-in tournament for the second year in a row.

In a 124-123 win over the Kings on December 10, 2021, the 6-9 forward posted 19 points, eight rebound, five assist, three blocks and two steals.

He had a season-high 21 points and eight rebound in the game against the Spurs.

The Hornets have missed the playoffs the past two years, but they are hoping to change that this year. The last person to lead the Hornets to the playoffs is back on the sideline.

Martin has signed a four-year contract.
