Fans booed Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix, but Lewis Hamilton disagreed with them.

The Dutch driver was jeered by a section of the crowd while he was doing his interview after his second place finish at the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton was booed by Verstappen's fans during their title fight.

There was no booing. We have a lot of fans. I don't agree with booing our sports fans.

When Hamilton lost his eighth world title after the race director failed to apply the rules correctly in the final race of the season, he was booed by the crowd.

He said that it doesn't matter when you boo someone. They have already made a mistake, but I appreciate the support I have here. Maybe some of them are still hurting from last year.

The fans' behavior was disappointing because Verstappen couldn't hear the questions he was being asked.

He said that it was a bit of an issue. They can do that if they want to. I don't think it will change anything. I'm content to be here. The track is great and the atmosphere is great. Some of them might not like me, but that's fine. All of them have their own opinions. I don't pay much attention.

Wolff said that they shouldn't be seeing booing in any sports. It's unsportsmanlike.

If you don't like the other guys, remain silent, that's a good way to go. Whatever happened last year, no driver deserves it.

Being booed is abusive and that's why the emotional sport that is controversial because you're a fan and not a fan of one or the other driver, that's good, but there is a limit we shouldn't overstep.

On-track frustration for Hamilton

Hamilton was in the running for the fastest lap in the wet.

The Mercedes team made a mistake at the end of the race and he fell to fifth on the grid.

He was on a quicker lap in the dying moments of qualification, but was told to stop because he needed to charge his hybrid system's battery.

Hamilton was not able to improve because of the rain.

In the rain, we were fighting for the front row, and it was all the way up to the second to last lap. We were up there, and I was asked to back off, but then the rain came. It's just a little unfortunate.

I was so hopeful because we had a great crowd and I was in the fight, feeling great.

I was second and I said I could go quicker than that. They told me to back off and go again. The next lap was not as great.

Hopes of a fightback

After an aerodynamic upgrade seemed to improve the car's performance, the conclusion of qualification was disappointing for Mercedes.

He wanted to pull something special out for the race.

He warned against expecting Verstappen to fight for the win against the two Red Bulls and the other teams.

Hamilton said that they had a good race car. I'm not sure if we can challenge for a victory. In the dry, the Red Bulls are very fast. At the moment, they are pulling away.

They don't have any bouncing where we have bouncing in the corners. At the moment, they are pulling away from me.

The race pace was better on Friday. I believe they are still a bit ahead. I'm hoping that we'll be closer on race pace compared to last race, and if we can just hold on to them, we can progress. Don't fret, I will be aggressive.

Have Mercedes made progress?

Following the introduction of the Mercedes' new parts, Hamilton and Russell have been close to the pace.

Hamilton wasn't sure if the team had closed the gap to the teams at the front.

Hamilton said that they are in a track where it is medium and high-speed corners. We aren't great in low-speed corners and there are less of them here.

The car is very fast. We were quick through Turns Three and Nine when we were in Barcelona.

We're a little closer because of the high speed. I'm not sure if we've closed the gap to Red Bull. I don't think we've closed the gap because they've brought the same upgrade.

Ferrari hopeful of beating Verstappen

With his championship lead over Verstappen down to 49 points, Charles Leclerc was hoping that his team could have four strong races leading up to the summer break in order to get him back in the title race.

A spin on his final lap left Leclerc third, but his team-mates Sainz and Verstappen took the top two spots. The drivers said they would try to win the game using team work.

I would be very happy if Carlos won the race, but I am not going to hide that I want to win as well.

If we can play strategic moves within the cars, we will finish one-two. Let's wait and see, I felt good with the car.

Sainz said: "We will work as a team like we've done all season and I'm pretty sure between Charles and me we can put a good battle with Max." We can achieve a one-two if we continue to work hard.

Verstappen's own chance of pole was lost as a result of Leclerc's late error, which brought out yellow caution flags and forced the world champion to back off.

He said that it was so tight that it was like last time in Canada. I hope we can have a good time.
