Since Fox got snatched up by Disney, there has been a lot of speculation about who will play the new X-men in the upcoming movie. Everyone has an opinion on the one that everyone has an opinion on. We now know that there is nothing that can stop Hugh Jackman from returning to the role that catapulted him into cinematic fame. There is no shortage of people who want someone new to take the reigns, and one actor is now specifically making their desires clear rather than just dancing around the subject and hoping to be John Krasinski.
Taron Egerton of Kingsman and Rocketman fame wants to be a comic book writer. While promoting his upcoming Apple TV+ show Black Bird, Egerton admitted that he has spoken with Kevin Feige about getting involved in the superhero game. He knows that there are some big shoes to fill, no matter who plays the character. He said he would be excited but also nervous. I wonder if someone else would be able to do it because Hugh is so associated with it. The actor spoke about being aware of fans wanting him in the role, and was flattered that they were rooting for him.
It is possible that Feige and crew have someone else in mind for Egerton to play Wolverine, but it is also possible that Egerton will get a chance to play the character. We don't know what Egerton's future will be until we know what's happening in the production of the movie. He may get locked in for Human Torch or Nova if he ends up being Wolverine. He could be a good one. It is likely that he will eventually play a superhero, since everyone does, it is just a matter of who it will be.
