It was only a month but it felt like forever for many fans. As of this weekend, the last two episodes of the show are online, with part 2 having one 90 minute episode and a 2.5 hour finale that feels like it breezes by.
This could have been the series finale with a few changes, but we have one more full season of the show to go, and hopefully it won't be delayed by the Pandemic.
What is arguably the best season of the series so far, the ending has gotten a lot of universal praise from fans, which is a good sign. The highlights were what they were. Who ended up where? There are a few things I want to do as an end to the show. It's obvious that there's more to come.
There is a good and a bad thing for me. I really liked the scene where Eddie finally gets the courage to be a hero, fending off a swarm of bats to protect everyone else, but I don't think it's a good idea to introduce a new character and have them killed off by the end. Eddie was almost doomed from the beginning, and I was a little disappointed to see it play out exactly as expected. Between his final stand and his concert, he went out amazingly.
One of the highlights of the show is here. Gaten Matarazzo is probably the best actor of the finale due to his performance both during Eddie's death scene and later in which he relays to Eddie's uncle that he wasn't the monster people think he is. There is an amazing scene in the finale.
One of the more interesting revelations was Vecna. Vecna was assumed to be a servant of the Mind Flayer, but it turns out he is the ultimate bad guy. When Eleven sent One to the Upside Down, it was just a lawless landscape of monsters, but by combining with the Hive Mind, Vecna has been the driving force behind the "invasion" of Hawkins. He's not a lieutenant, he's the final boss, and he's still alive because Nancy didn't shoot him in the head.
In the car with Will, he explained to Mike that he is the heart of the team and Eleven will always need him, but also talked about himself, which Mike misses completely. Will is gay, and has a crush on his best friend, but the show has not said that explicitly. I don't know what will happen with this in the final season, but Mike and Eleven feel like the "destined" couple that can't be broken up, and I don't think Mike will accept Will.
At this point, I don't think anyone is against Steven and Nancy getting back together. Jonathan is the biggest dud of a character in this series, he has been from the beginning, and I can't see him staying with Nancy at the end.
There will be a portion of early season 5 dedicated to Eleven diving into Max's mind and pulling her out of her coma, which is something she should be able to do. The Dear Billy episode and her confession at the beginning of the Vecna trap are two of the most important episodes of the season.
I didn't like the Russian plot line in The Adults. It felt like it existed to give the adults something to do in order to get everything back to the way it was before. It was tied into the final fight with an attack on the hivemind. Hopper cut off the demogorgon's head with a sword and his reunion with El was very emotional.
The best Eleven moments of the season were before the finale when we learned what happened with One and that she accidentally created Vecna with her powers. Her and Max versus Vecna was pretty good, but I think Eleven is starting to feel a little bit different than the other cast members. She can now bring people back from the dead since she has her powers back. She will be the last key to defeating Vecna and saving the world.
So, when is the 5th season going to start?
