He will be remembered as one of Scottish football's greatest ever players even though his career was turbulent.

Andy Goram could have focused on cricket instead of football when he first moved to England.

He excelled at both sports as a teenager, but preferred a career in the bowling crease.

He was the captain of the school and Clive Lloyd was his hero.

His football development became his focus after he signed for West Bromwich Albion at the age of 15.

The new boss felt that Goram was too small to make it as a 'keeper and he was released.

He started his football journey at the Athletic.

A 16-year-old Goram made his debut for the club in 1981 and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club over the course of six years.

He had won four Scotland caps and decided to move north to join Hibs.

He was listed as a transfer-listed by Walter Smith after he went AWOL for six days and drank and partying in Tenerife.

He won three Scottish cups, two league cups and was part of six title-winning squad as he helped the club win nine-in-a-row before he left in 1998.

He showed people how special a talent he was when he returned to Scotland with Motherwell after losing his way with two different teams.

He helped the Steelmen to a fourth-place finish in his second season at Fir Park and racked up 69 games for the club.

During his time with Motherwell, Goram was given the chance to fulfill a childhood dream.

He was brought to Manchester United by Sir Alex Ferguson.

At the end of the 2000-2001 season, the 36-year-old was brought in on loan.

It was another ambition for the boy from Bury who played for them two times.

He made his 750th appearance in senior football for Queen of the South and helped them win the Challenge Cup.

He played 762 games for the club during his time there.

Over the course of 13 years, Goram won 43 caps for Scotland.

At Euro 92 in Sweden, he was the number one.

He was angry that Craig Brown had decided not to pick him for the tournament.

After leaving their US training camp, he retired from international duty.

Goram was passionate about representing the country of his father.

He pulled on the cricket whites of Scotland as well, managing two first-class matches and playing in a major international football match for Scotland.

He was released from his first club because he was too short to be a 'keeper.

Along the way, he didn't always help himself.

It's fair to say that Goram caused headaches for his managers and clashed with his team-mates, but Smith made it clear why he and others would see past that.

He cared more about the winner's attitude he had. He wanted to keep a clean sheet.
